Hiking in south west Drenthe
The south west of Drenthe is rich in nature. Fields of green and cornflowers, pasture with cattle, meandering brooks, wooded banks and forests and lest we forget a variety of estates open to hikers. Several predetermined routes offer to show you around these grounds. You have plenty of space, even during a time of social distancing.
Berghuizen Stroll

Echtenerveld
If you prefer to hike a bit longer, then we recommend Echtenerveld. It is a more varied area and more peaceful than the more well known Dwingelderveld. A variety of routes start from the parking lot at the Ruinerweg.
We have personally set out another route that leads around the Gijsselterkoelen, a collection of ponds in a heather. Download the pdf with the description or the GPX below.
One kilometer south of Berghuizen the Hiking Network De Wolden-Oost starts, offering over 500 kilometers of varied hiking trails that offer peace and quiet even during the busier seasons. We have a useful map with marked-out nodes for you at our home.
Aside from that the Golden Triangle of National Parks in which we live offers many acres of nature reserves where you can hike and cycle to your heart’s content. We offer several maps that you can use.
