Cycling in Drenthe

Drenthe has been crowned the cycling province of the Netherlands, and with good reason; with over 1700 kilometers of cycling paths you have free reign over your route. Close to Molenbergh you will find nodes 60 and 83 of the Cycling network. We offer a map of the surrounding paths as well as labels for your handlebars where you can keep track of your route, or you can choose to use a predetermined route.

Below you will find a variety of predetermined routes for tourists from our house.

Heerlijkheid Ruinerwold 44 KM
This signed route can be started at Molenbergh. You will then cycle over Koekange to the lovely village of Echtenerveld. A wonderful sloping forest path winds through fens and meadows. You can choose to take a brake halfway in Ruinen where you will find a lot of beautiful terraces. Afterwards the route continues along the 7 kilometer long Dr. Larijweg with stately, monumental farms and pear trees at both sides.

Ruinerwold and Reestdal 45 km
This route from Drents Landschap follows the Reest, a meandering brook between Drenthe and Overijssel. The valley has its own character and is incomparable with other river valleys in Drenthe. The route will take you past estates, heathers, forests, fields and cosy farms.

Dwingelderveld 47 KM
From Molenbergh you can choose to start ‘Buiten de bewoonde wereld in Nationaal Park Dwingelderveld’.This 47.18 kilometer router will take you past Dutch farms with green meadows to the expansive heather and the forests of Dwingelderveld. We always recommend this route.

Havelterbergroute 54 KM
The Havelterbergroute is a varied cycling route through rural Drenthe. You will cycle past hunebeds, heathers and flocks of sheep. You pass through Ruinerwold, Havelte and Meppel, a lovely town that puts its trading past on full display. The town also offers plenty of opportunities for a meal on one of its many terraces.

Cycling through the Colonies of Weldadigheid (Bounty)
A little farther away from Molenbergh, but wholly recommended all the same, lie the cycling routes through Weldadig Oord, around 20 kilometers north of Molenbergh.
Cycle through nature and follow in the tracks of the paupers. Experience the Colonies of Bounty, a unique part of Dutch history spread through Drenthe, Friesland and Overijssel. Weldadig Oord has assembled a couple of wonderful cycling and hiking routes. These can be found in our B&B or you can download them here.
